Night Hunter
Turning a green screen shoot in
Winnipeg to a high-speed chase
in the snowy Midwest.
This thriller demanded some serious seamless VFX. Kalos was brought in by UMedia to provide a solution for a car chase and flipping sequence filmed in a green screen studio (for safety) but set on a highway in the snow-covered Midwest. To ensure background consistency across the sequence and control car speed, car tilt and roll, we knew we had to build out a bespoke procedural setup.
Using a combination of Digital Matte Painting and compositing, our team created two massive 16K resolution backgrounds, complete with roads, blockades, signs, poles, and wires, for projection to simulate real-world speed and parallax. It was an incredibly fast turnaround, but the procedural setups allowed our artists to stay fast and flexible.
